Can AA and AAA Batteries be used in place of each other?
Now I know there’s the size barrier of these two batteries, but they do have the same voltage. If i could, theoretically, use an external means of putting an AA battery into a AAA battery compartment (or vise versa), would the battery work with the device I’m attempting to power? If so, would there be a decreased efficiency?
The AA and AAA batteries are the same voltage, 1.5 volts. But they have different capacities. The AAA batteries have a rating of 1000 mAh’s. They are designed to run loads of about 10 mA’s. The AA batteries have a rating of 2000 mAh’s and are designed to run a load of about 50 mA’s. The AA battery will last twice as long as a AAA battery with the same load. There’s also the size difference. It’s hard to get a AAA battery to fit a AA slot and make a reliable contact. You can’t get a AA battery into a AAA slot. See the link below for more information.
