Canon SX30IS 14.1MP Digital Camera with 35x Wide Angle Optical Image
I’ve had variety of Canon digital purpose & shoots over the last seven or eight years. We’ve had compact ones that my wife likes and i have many of the ‘S’ and ‘SX’ models.
We did our dream vacation this summer – Alaska cruise and land tour. Purchased an SX20IS and got some nice pics. half method through the holiday I broke the latch on the battery door and finished the trip with it taped closed. once I saw that Canon had a brand new model with a 35X zoom i made a decision to sell the broken one and purchase the SX30. Glad I did. this can be by way the most effective of the Canon’s I actually have owned. Things i favor -
1. I wear glasses & continuously dial within the target the viewfinder. On all of the recent models i’d got to re-adjust once the camera was handled. Canon added a ratchet ‘clicker’ on this model to lock within the adjustment. tiny improvement, but handy.
2. The button to zoom out when attempting to follow a topic at extreme magnification may be a wonderful feature. Have solely had the camera for a handful weeks however i believe it’ll be nice. Example – On the Alaska vacation it absolutely was a giant challenge to do and follow moving wildlife like killer whales with the SX20. want I had this camera on the trip.
3. one in every of the SX30 reviewers commented regarding poor resolution with this model compared with the SX20. I didn’t notice that to be the case. All of the pics I saw from this different person were taken past the optical zoom and at the acute digital zoom. Personally, I never use digital zoom as a result of i do know the photographs lose quality. The chickadee I posted for this camera was taken regarding seventy five feet from our deck & was hand-held. I cropped the image slightly. suppose it’s smart. Nature photography has been one in every of the best thrills of the acute zooms on these cameras.
4. Location of controls. Quite a number of years ago I lost the tip on my right index finger in an industrial mishap. My grip on the camera may be a very little totally different thanks to this. On the SX20 I found myself bumping the manual focus management frequently. The SX30 moved this management to a distinct `clock position’ on the rear management. haven’t had any issues bumping the manual focus the least bit.
5. Battery stuff. I had many sets of Rayovac Hybrid AA batteries for the SX20 & loved them. nice shelf life and plenty of power. wasn’t positive how i’d like getting to a proprietary battery on the SX30. The battery on the SX30 seems to be a monster. The battery life indicator within the viewfinder may be a terrific feature too. I shot forty five minutes of HD video at a grandkids Christmas show and played it back to the laptop to burn a DVD. The battery indicator never moved off full. once I initial got the SX30 i believed regarding shopping for a spare battery. currently i am unsure if i’ll ever want it. i discussed that I broke the battery door on the SX20. The SX20 door appeared quite flimsy, that is uncommon for Canon merchandise. i believe the battery door on the SX30 is a lot of `robust’ & doubt i’ll ever have a drag.
5. The management wheel on the highest of the SX30 has a lot of significant duty grooves than on previous models. Would be nice if shooting within the cold with gloves on.
All in all, i believe Canon extremely incorporates a winner during this new model. i am a lively amateur, not a pro. i am unsure what edges RAW format has. it’s missing on this model too. i am going to let another reviewer inquire into RAW format pictures. i’ll add comments as i take advantage of the camera a lot of.
