my pentax asahi s2 advance lever is jammed, how can i fix it?
i’m a bit of a novice with camera’s, and unfortunatly i didnt press the ‘R’ button when trying to wind the film on. I think i may have stupidly put too much pressure on it when it wouldn’t turn, which has now resulted in the advance lever jamming.
i was wondering if this could be something i can fix or weather its better a proffessional do it?

Bertie, if the film is still in the camera, you should be able to just press the rewind button and rewind the film, take a shot (without film loaded) and work the advance again like normal. If you have tried this and the advance is still jammed, you likely did break the camera.
35mm SLR cameras are pretty complicated things and the Asahi S2 is a really nice and collectible camera, so you don’t want to damage it further by attempting repair yourself. And you would have to get into a fairly complicated repair strategy in order to fix this, so as has been stated, the best thing to do would be to find a local repair shop or find a Pentax-specific shop online.
It is likely going to cost just over $100 to resolve this and give the whole camera a good looking over. This may sound very expensive and as has been said, you can probably buy another camera for this cost. However, I would recommend you get the camera repaired. If you buy another camera you’re going to wind up with something else that will be likely to incur some other problem, meanwhile you’ll have an otherwise perfectly good camera (the S2) just sitting around doing nothing because you won’t be able to sell it honestly for any useful amount of money with the advance jammed.
Nobody makes cameras like this anymore and the few companies who do make anything near the equivalent design and build quality charge much more than $100 or $200 for their cameras. So get it fixed, take care of it and you will have an awesome camera for many many years again.
When I was a kid, my dad always told me never to force things that were not working for me, but rather try to figure out why they aren’t doing what I need them to do. This advice has always stuck with me and you may want to think of that next tyme your camera, or anything else, does not do what you are trying to make it do.
