retrofocus lens (attachment) vs. extension tubes?
is an extension tube’s purpose similar to that of a retrofocus lens design/attachment? are they the same?
allowing to decrease the focal length for closer shooting.. ?
well, i have yet to learn about reversing rings.. the photography book im currently reading ( PHOTOGRAPHY ; london, stone, upton) mentions both retrofuc lenses and extension tubes–in the FOCAL LENGTH section.
i’m just trying to differentiate the two.

They are totally different. A retrofocus attachment is a lens that goes on the front of a normal lens to convert it to a wide angle, which means it decreases the focal length of the lens. They are mostly used on fixed-lens cameras.
Extension tubes just move the lens further from the sensor or film, letting the lens focus closer. They can be used on an SLR or other interchangeable-lens camera instead of a macro lens. An extension tube doesn’t change the focal length.
