Automatic Flash
I need the manual or intructions on how to use a Kalimar 175a automatic flash on my Minolta. Can anyone help?
Which Minolta? There are many, and somewhere in there Minolta inverted their hot shoe connection.
The flash you have is an auto-thyristor unit. You tell the flash what ISO you are using, and what aperture. You set your camera to the same aperture, and make sure the film speed/digital ISO is correct. You set your shutter speed to anything at or below max sync, and you shoot away. The flash detects reflected light, and controls output itself. All you have to do is make sure the settings are made properly on both camera and flash.
If you have a film Minolta with standard ISO hot shoe, the instructions above will be all you need. If you have a Maxxum with the proprietary shoe, or any of the Minolta DSLR’s, you would need a $10 adapter off Ebay, and it will work just like written above. If you can find the Minolta FS-1100 flash adapter, it will cost you $100 or more. The Sony version is $125. The Seagull brand off Ebay is $10.
