Disassembling your Dell laptop by yourself
Disassemble your Dell Studio 1555 laptop computer to familiarize yourself with where the primary components are. Knowing how to disassemble your Dell Studio 1555 laptop computer can save you a trip to the repair store. Disassembling your laptop will allow you to replace hardware components that no longer work. You will also be able to perform your own upgrades on your machine, swapping out-of-date hardware for newer equipment. Disassembling your Dell Studio 1555 laptop only requires a little bit of time and a few screwdrivers. All you need is a few simple tools and a grounding strap to avoid causing static electricity damage to your laptop.
1. Shut down the Dell Studio 1555 laptop. Unplug the power cable and any other devices connected to the laptop. Turn the laptop upside down and position it so the Dell Studio 1555 battery is next to you.
2. Push the battery-release latch above the center of the Dell Studio battery to the left until it locks into place. Remove the battery. Remove the screw in the center of the laptop battery bay.
3. Loosen but do not remove the three screws in the base cover above the left side of the battery bay. Remove the base cover.
4. Remove the four screws in the hard drive bracket in the upper-left corner of the Dell Studio laptop. Slide the hard drive to the left, then lift and remove it from the laptop. Repeat this step if you have a second hard drive installed. The second hard drive will be on the middle-left side of the laptop.
5. Push the retaining clips on the short sides of the upper memory module, located in the lower part of the base cover bay, away from the module. Carefully pull the module out of its slot. Repeat this step for the lower memory module.
6. Remove the two screws on the right side of the laptop and the four screws along the top of the laptop. Remove the one screw in the lower-right corner of the laptop and the one screw in the lower-left corner of the hard drive bay.
7. Turn the Dell Studio laptop right side up. Open the display and push the monitor back as far as it will go. Slide a flathead screwdriver beneath the control cover behind the keyboard and pry upward. Remove the control cover.
8. Remove the screws behind the “F2″ and “F12″ keys. Lift the back of the keyboard and place it, keys down, in front of the mouse touchpad. Lift the plastic connector holding the ribbon cable in the laptop. Remove the keyboard.
9. Unplug the three cables in the upper-left corner and the one cable in the upper-middle part of the keyboard bay. Lift the ribbon cable connector in the lower-middle part of the keyboard bay and remove the the ribbon cable. Lift and remove the palm rest.
10. Remove the screw in the lower-right corner of the optical drive. Slide the optical drive to he right, then lift and remove it from the Dell Studio 1555 laptop.
