I’m not a big fan of that one. For the price, I guess it’s OK, but my suggestion is to wait a little bit, save up, and invest a bit more in at least a basic MiniDV camcorder; these shoot full-frame DV that looks good on a TV.
MPEG-4, the format of this linked camcorder, is a format designed for video used in portable devices, like cell phones and portable media players. This won’t look too good on a TV.
As another poster stated, this camera uses ONLY a digital zoom, which is basically the camera “guessing” at what the image would look like if it was zoomed in. This results in a bad-looking, pixellated image. There is no optical zoom on this device; optical zoom is the use of mechanical movement of the lenses to get a TRUE zoom, where the image quality remains the same all the way through the zoom. If you’re interested in good-quality video, don’t even bother looking at digital zoom in a camcorder; look ONLY at optical.
If you’re using this ONLY for web videos for YouTube, then I MIGHT think about this camera. Otherwise, stay away; it’s a good bet you’ll be disappointed if you use it for any other purpose. This is not the machine I’d want to go with if I was trying to preserve important life memories or anything like that.
