How much longer will a 12-cell battery last in my notebook?
My notebook specs:
HP Pavilion – 2 months old
- AMD Turion X2 2.00 GHZ
- 1GB Ram
- Windows Vista Home Premium
- 17” HD Display
- N-Vidia Geforce 6150
- Western Digital 100 GB Hard drive
Right now it has the standard 6-cell battery and it only lasts about 45 minutes on the HP Recommended Power Plan. If I change it to the power saver plan (which darkens the screen) and slows it down it only lasts 1 hour.
Would I benefit from a 12-cell battery?
Oh yeah…It has an internal Broadcom Wireless adapter 802.11G
going from 6 cells to 12 cells would realistically double your time over what a full charged and new 6 cell battery would do.
Here’s some tips for better battery life:
1. Go into device manager – start disabling things you don’t need. Firewire port / extra USB / Modem ? Turn off things that don’t need to drink the juice.
2. Screen brightness. The dimmer – the more battery.
3. Remove optical discs. Spinning that rom drive takes some battery away.
4. Disable the onboard nic if you’re wireless for sure – save more juice.
5. Sound – if you’re not using it – mute it and power down that amplifier chip.
6. If you’re reading alot of cachced screen data – set your disk to go to sleep after a few minutes. IT IS HARD ON DRIVES STARTING AND STOPPING ALL THE TIME THOUGH – AND I REALLY DON”T RECCOMEND THIS.
