Best storage Format for Camcorders
There is no greater joy than witnessing a momentous event and recording it on your own digital camcorder. Viewing these footages later brings back happy memories and most of the times, playing the video back is the favorite part of any family gathering. This is why you must make sure that it is carefully stored in a safe place and in a format that you feel comfortable with. Prevention is better than restoration when talking about digital camera and digital camcorders.
In choosing which digital camcorder to buy, the storage format you are going to store the footage in should be carefully considered. As of the moment, there are several types of video format available on the market. Some examples of these are the DVD disc, the popular MiniDVs, the hard drive storage and flash drive-based digital camcorder formats.
DVD Disc Storage
If you do not want any complex operation after recording footages and would want to store that video on a DVD disc right away, then you might want to consider a digital camcorder that has DVD disc storage. This type of camcorder format allows you to record the storage directly to the DVD disc and gives you the ability to immediately insert the disc into a DVD player for immediate playback. This type of format, however, has several drawbacks like image quality, length of recording time, and the risk of physical scratches which may render the disk unusable.
MiniDV Storage
Still the most popular medium of camcorder storage format, MiniDV storage allows you to record high quality footages for later viewing and uploading. A standard MiniDV tape can record sixty to ninety minutes of vivid footage and because of its metal technology, the same tape can be rewound and re-recorded several times without losing its quality. This is the preferred one of most people because it is relatively easy to bring, the tape is relatively cheap, and allows you to record high quality footages. You can always transfer the footages to the computer for editing using wireless media or firewire cable.
Hard Disk Drive and Flash Drive-Based Storage Format
This type of digital camcorder format is essentially the same as the video formats on your computer. Moving your recorded footages to your computer for later storage on some other formats is easy with this type of digital camcorder. Hard disk drive storage camcorders usually come in one hundred twenty gigabytes of hard disk space which is already an adequate space for several high quality videos to be recorded. For the flash-based digital camcorder, the capacity is determined by the size of the flash drive, albeit, you can always replace it with higher capacity flash drives.
Storage format should be one of your considerations in choosing which digital camcorder to buy. Remember that the different kinds of storage formats have a great impact on whether it is user friendly or not. Careful research and examination on these different storage formats will help you choose the right camcorder to buy.
