Is it possible to shred files from my external USB drive?
Yes, it is possible to shred complete files from your external USB drive using Remo Shredder. With the help of Remo Shredder you can securely wipe the complete USB drive, physical hard drives or logical partitions.
Normal delete command or deleting data from the Recycle bin, formatting, partitioning or re-partitioning is not a safe method for data removal from any sort of storage devices. When there is a need to wipe complete data on the drive, Shredding files and folders is not an appropriate option. In order to facilitate entire drive wiping in one click, Remo Shredder offers “Drive Wipe” utility, which eliminates data and effectively removes the magnetic remnants from the selected partition or drive beyond recovery.
Below mentioned are 9 drive wipe standards available with “Drive Wipe” utility that we need to follow certain advance patterns or standards for disk wiping.
- Fast Zero Overwrite

- US Department of Defense (DoD 5220.22-M)
- US Navy, NAVSO P-5239-26 – RLL

Steps to Wipe Complete External USB drive
Step 1: Launch the Remo Shredder Main application either from start menu or from desktop shortcut. As soon as the application is launched, it starts loading the drives in the left tree pane as shown in Figure a.

Please Note: You can press Esc button to cancel loading
Step – 2
To start Drive Wipe, click on ‘Drive Wipe’ button at the Toolbar or launch from Tool -> Drive Wipe in Menu bar. Drive Wipe interface will be opened. Select the drive you wish to wipe completely and click on ‘Next’ button as shown in figure a below figure b.

Step 3: As soon as you click Next Button, you get a window to select the Disk Wiping standards according to your requirement as shown in Figure c.

Select the appropriate method and press Next button to erase the selected drive. As you click Next button, a Window asking for confirmation before start of the wiping process would be displayed, click OK to continue wiping the selected drive.
Important Information:
- Please make sure that you have selected correct drive to wipe using “Drive Wipe” option. Drive once wiped with this option will cause permanent deletion of data beyond recovery.
- The drive after wiping process will be restored to its factory settings, where in you need to format the drive again to re-use.
