Fed Zorki
Cool film camera for camera collector?
My girlfriend collects cameras, so I thought I’d try to get her one for Xmas (yes I know Xmas was 3 days ago; that’s another story). Anyway, I was looking at Zorki, Kiev, and FED cameras on eBay. I don’t want to spend any more than $70.
I don’t know a whole lot about cameras so could someone point me in the right direction? Maybe a brand name I could check out or something. I’d prefer it be kinda vintage and unique looking.

Wow…excellent question. But I wouldn’t know where to start! There are so many awesome vintage cameras out there! I can think of a million good 35mm and medium format (120 size) film cameras. I’ll list a few that I have in my collection. A 35mm rangefinder or SLR might be a good idea.
35mm rangefinder cameras:
Argus C3
Argus C4
Argus C-44
The Argus C3 is a REALLY old camera and a little heavy and kind of awkward to use. But it’s very solid and reliable. Like most antique cameras, it’s completely manual, so your girlfriend will have to learn how to use manual exposure. But that’s better anyway, because then she’ll be able to have more creativity with her pictures. The Argus C3 is one of my favorite 35mm cameras. Here’s a Wikipedia article about it:

You can find the Argus C3 in good condition for dirt cheap on eBay or in antique shops and thrift shops. There is also a variant of the Argus C3, called the “Matchmatic.” It’s very similar to the original C3, but has a slightly different body design and different color. That wikipedia article has a picture of it. The Matchmatic is not quite as common as the standard C3, so it tends to sell for a little bit higher.
There are also a million great 35mm SLR’s out there. I have the Minolta SRT-101 and Minolta SR-1. They’re both great cameras and I would recommend either of them.
There are also a ton of good antique medium format cameras. A folding camera or Twin Lens Reflex camera would be great. Here’s a few of the medium format cameras I have. Any of these would be a good start:

You can find all these cameras on eBay for less than $70. They all take 120 size roll film, which you should be able to get at any decent photography supply shop or camera shop.
