Flash Microdrive

CompactFlash or Microdrive?
I’m not sure if I’m using the word microdrive correctly here, but I’m referring the the miniature hard disks you can use that fit into a Compact Flash slot on a digital camera.
I just ordered a Canon Digital Rebel XT, and need to get a memory card for it. I take a lot of nature shots, both close up and landscape. I will probably be taking all my pictures at the highest resolution. To get to a lot of the areas I take my shots, I sometimes have to hike several miles.
From what I could gather, CompactFlash cards are more expensive, use less power, and are more shock resistant (probably won’t lose data) than a Microdrive.
I think CompactFlash sounds like the better choice for me because some of the areas I hike are pretty rough (shock) and remote (battery life). I plan on buying a second battery. Can somebody confirm this? I’m just looking for some guidance as to what type of card to get, and what size. I’d like to be able to get about 250 pictures on a single card.
Go with the compact flash card. It is a sold state design, no moving parts, so it would be hard to mess it up. I have washed a CF card in the washing machine and did not loose the pictures. I wouldn’t recommend it but it did survive and I still use it. You can get them from 128K up to 8gig. You can get one that suits your size requirements. I would recommend getting 1gig cards and getting as many as you end up needing. If you end up needing more than one I will be surprised. Sine you plan on taking them at the highest resolution you may fill a 1gig card but I doubt it.
