What is a wireless external flash for a DSLR?
I a looking at buying an external flash for my Sony DSLR-A300. I was looking at the Sony HVL-F42AM external flash. What does it mean when they say “wireless remote capability” What else do I need to do this aside from my camera and the flash? I guess I just dont understand what the descpritions mean when they say wireless? Thanks!
If you set your camera to wireless flash and open your pop-up flash, then set the F42AM to wireless operation, it receives a coded message from the pop-up flash to fire when you press the shutter. Voila! Wireless flash. It’s designed for more ‘creative’ lighting and eliminate red-eye, that sort of thing. I have 3 flashguns that all fire and expose perfectly in the Sony wireless fashion.
You don’t need anything else.
But read your instructions – it might tell you to set wireless mode while the flash is attached to the camera. Can’t remember any more whether you’re supposed to do it that way.
