Gripping Camera
I’m going to Egypt. What equipment do I need for my camera?
I’m going to Egypt for a walk around the desert for a week. I’m planning on taking my Canon 50D with two lenses, battery grip, UV & skylight filters, and a spare battery(s) and memory card.
Is there obvious anything I should take. My budget isn’t huge. And I don’t want to be carrying too much weight.
Dust & heat might be a big problem. Does anyone have experience of shooting in these conditions?
The dust and heat can be a real problem as you have rightly guessed.
Apart from the obvious things, carry a good blower bulb, microfiber cloth, lenspen and some sensor swap plus (don’t carry sensor swabs with liquid separate since the liquid will not be allowed in the flight and secondly the plus versions are easier to carry around and use).
All the above things are light and will not take too much of space.
Another thing to carry is – some kind of data backup (like on a hard disc) or lots of spare memory cards especially if you click RAW.
Make sure that your camera strap is comfortable, strong and wide where it touches your neck. If it’s made of nylon, rexine or rubber, cover it with some soft cotton cloth.
Don’t carry your battery grip !
(Apart from the above things, carry a good water based sunscreen for yourself.)
