D40 Telephoto lens help?

Hey guys I need some help. I have a Nikon D40 with 2 lens. The normal 55mm that comes with it and a 200mm zoom lens. Now I’ve been looking around on ebay for a cheaper way to extend my zoom on my 200mm (Here’s the 200mm lens I mentioned http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5700628/Trail/searchtext%3ENIKON.htm )

Anyway i have found this on Ebay

And i was drawn in by the price. However not knowing too much about cameras I was hoping someone could give me some advice about this. Really I just want to know if it would work with my lenses and if so how much of an improvement would it be?

I wouldn’t recommend it. That’s what you call a teleconverter.

It gives a lens more reach, but in the process you lose significant image quality with all but the best lenses, and several stops of aperture. Most teleconverters will confuse the autofocus system, which leads to only using manual focus.
