How fast do I have to be to run intercollegiate track?
It is intercollegiate. University of Southern Maine Outdoor track. Does intercollegiate mean it is Division III? My event in high school was the 800m run. My best time was a 2:11. I am thinking this is too slow. Should I even bother considering I have been out of practice for so long? That was my sophomore year in highschool. I am a sophomore in college now transferring to USM.
Intercollegiate track simply means that you’re competing against other colleges, it has nothing to do with which division you’re competing in. University of Southern Maine is Division III. Since you ran 2:11 back in your sophomore year of high school, you could probably run faster as long as you’ve stayed in shape since then. Also, since Division III has such a wide range of athletes, I doubt they’d have a problem with you competing, but you’re still going to see times that are much faster (in the low- to mid-1:50 range). I run Division I track, and I sometimes see 800 runners in the low 2:00′s as well.
