Lens Finder
Two questions: 1-There are some noise in RAW mode with my D70s.2-Some dusts in view finder & lens are visibe.?
1-I am used to taking photos in RAW mode with D70s and I always look some nioses in portrate photos. Particularly in eyebrows which is significantly obvious. I am so intrigue to know any problem with my D70s or it is common for this model.
2-I see some dusts in view finder and in internal part of 18-70 lens individually. Any proficient guide me how can I repare these dusts.
Dust in the lens is weird. They are usuall well sealed. Clean the front and rear elements with a very soft cloth (not paper) and your breath.
The rear element forms the image so if that is clean the dust will not affect it. To clean the other lenses require a camera repair person.
Artifiacts always happen and especially when you save an image. SAVE as little as possible.
Understand all still cameras are still single chip and use a matrix of two greens, one blue and one red and then dithers the colors for all four pixels based on an altgorithm that may sample from as much as 16 total pixles and “weigh” the colors. This will introduce slight tinge to adjacent pixels.
The only way to get rid of this would be to make 3 chip cameras using a beam splitter so that RGB color would replace the current mode (the Bayer method) which samples half your pixels in green and spits the rest into blue and red.
You can expect blocks of 8 to 12 to 16 pixels to be “dithered” based on weightings of 4, 6, 8 greens along with 2, 3 or 4 each red and blue.
This will especially show with strong color contrasts, white to red, for example You will see dithering fringes (artifacts) caused by the alogorithms. But at 3 feet you never notice these.
CYMX magazine prints intentionally dither the colors because uniformed priting seems to look weird, so they put each color off axis a little and if you look at the dots with a magnifying glass you’ll see the various color dots clearly misaligned. This is done on pupose.
The digital camera algorithms aren’t done on purpose, but they picked the one that seem to deliver the best looking image given what they had to work with.
