Is this lens and TC a good combination? Nikon D40, Kenko Pro 300 1.4x and Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6?

I know that using it will take some sharpness away and converte my f-stop by 1, bringing my lens to a 5.6/8….. However, while using the teleconverter and this lens, will it produce photos and autofocus with the Nikon D40? also, how much light is required to shoot at F/8?
AF should work with the Kenko Pro 300 on the D40 as long as the Tamron 70-300mm you’re looking at is the one equipped with a built-in motor.
f/8 will be the widest aperture at 300mm, but you’ll almost definitely need to stop down another one, two, or more stops for sharper results. At f/11 or f/16, you’ll need to be shooting in a pretty bright environment. Also expect AF to be slower. The Kenko seems to be a good TC, but you’ll need a good lens for good results–the Tamron isn’t one of these lenses.
