What is the cheapest two person tent?
I am heading to alaska and I am going to be doing a lot of hiking and camping and such, so does anyone have any suggestions for a good, light, on the cheap end, tent?
Definitely don’t make “cheap” your priority for Alaska, as you will get what you pay for. I backpacked with a guy who went “cheap” on a $35 tent from a big box sporting goods store. At 4:30 in the morning, I looked outside to see him shivering under a tree with his completely saturated sleeping bag hanging on a branch. It was still sprinkling, it was about 44 degrees, and he had nowhere to go. All the other tents in our group were at capacity.
Used tents are a great place to start, but you will want a double wall tent with a full fly that goes to the ground. Lots of people buy the latest gear, only to sell it within a year and upgrade – you may find some great deals on Craigslist.
