POLARIZED 3D GLASSES: Polarized 3D glasses produce a full-color image that is considerably more comfortable to watch and is not subject to binocular rivalry. However, it requires a significant increase in expense. Polarized stereoscopic pictures have been around since 1936, when Edwin h. Land first applied it to motion pictures, Polarized 3D glasses is an example of stereoscopy and exploits the Polarization of light. Polarized 3d glasses create a 3D image by restricting light that reaches each eye. Though a stereoscopic movie, 2 images are superimposed onto the screen though different polarizing filters. By wearing a polarized pair of 3D glasses a 3D image is produced. Polarized 3D glasses come in two types linearly polarization, and circularly polarization. Linearly polarized glasses use vertical Polarization on one lens and horizontal polarization on the other. They require the viewer to keep his head level, as tilting of the viewing filters will cause the images of the left and right channels to bleed over to the opposite channel. Circularly polarization is polarized clockwise for one eye and counter-clockwise for the other. Similar to that of stereoscopic viewing using linearly polarized glasses, except the viewer can tilt his or her head and still maintain left/right separation. Polarized 3D glasses work only on front projection systems using a silver screen. It doesn’t work on flat 3D TVs. If you want the best 3D view this is the way to go, but is very expensive home theatre system. Shutter 3d glasses where first invented in the mid 70″s by Stephen McAllister of Evans and Sutherland Computer Corporation. Each lens of a pair 3D Shutter glasses contains a liquid crystal and a polarization filter so when voltage is applied (why shutter glasses are battery powered) the transparent lenses become dark which prevents light form coming through. These Shutter 3D glasses have a transmitter that sends a timing signal that alternatively shutter form the Left and right eye and back to the other in sync with the 3D TV screens refresh rate to make sure that each eye only views the image it is meant to see.
