Pol Roger Champagne Facts
If you want to truly savor a champagne you have to know it first. In the following paragraphs, we are going to write about the renowned Pol Roger champagne, its origins, sorts of champagnes from brut to rose and why is it one of the most expensive champagne brands.
The valuable producer’s vineyards are set near the Epernay in Champagne, France. Pol Roger Champagne was Winston Churchill’s favorite bubbly; he said the famous phrase : “In victory we deserve it, in defeat we need it”. The house was been founded in 1849 and named Roger. It became Pol Roger only in 1900. A hero of the champagne brand was Maurice Pol Roger. He was a legendary mayor of Epernay. People re-elected him years after years because in 1914 he courageously stopped an invading German army to enter the town. Maurice boys inherited the business after his death. Nowadays their direct descendants control the house. Christian Pol Roger and Christian de Billy are the heads of the house since 1988. Pol Roger House owns over 55 ha mostly in and out Epernay.
Pol Roger champagne image around the world. The house became a private supplier for the royal court when Queen Elizabeth II granted it the royal warrant. The champagne is highly ranked by the most popular wine authority in the world, Robert Parker. Also, credentials from wine authorities can be found at many wine reviews: “If I were to choose just one brand from which to source a vintage champagne to lay down, there is no question that I would prefer Pol Roger.” – Tom Stevenson, wine author and Champagne guru.
Legendary Pol Roger champagne sorts. Just like all the other traditional champagne houses, Pol Roger has its own prestige cuvee, a vintage champagne that takes almost ten years to produce. This is the top of the production. Named after Churchill, the Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill is a Pinot Noir-dominant champagne blended with Charnonnay. The first vintage of this cuvee was in 1975 and released ten years later. Other sorts of champagne include the classic non-vintage Pol Roger blended of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The Brut Reserve is made of one third of each of the three types of wine.
If you’re a connoisseur or just somebody who treasures good wines, Pol Roger champagne will give you a taste of one of the finest champagne brands. It is among the few champagne brands that use the legendary Champenoise method and produces one of the most expensive champagne in the history.
