illumination/ lighting?
i just got myself a nikon d40 not too long ago, and ive been itching to try some new techniques.
I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW TO MAKE LIGHTS IN THE BACKGROUND INTO BLURRY DOTS AND THE SUBJECT CLEAR.
AND ALSO SOME KIND OF WAY TO LIGHT UP AND MAKE EYES LOOK GOOD
my equiptment includes: 1 external flash, built in flash, one small metallic reflector umbrella and one big one, two of those bright carpenter lights, regular lamps and one bright florecent lamp-and all white ceilngs too. (im just confused on how to put them to use) I dont really have much knowledge of terms, so bare with me.
if you know the settings on the camera and how to change them, please include that. If not, thats fine too. any help is appreciated.
You need to decrease the depth of field. If you set the f stop to a high number like 16 or higher the area in focus will be large. If you decrease the f stop to a lower number like 4.5 or lower a smaller area will be in focus. Of course you need to set the corresponding shutter speed. Look at the lens on your camera and focus it. On the lens there should be a depth of field array. that looks something like this 16-8-4.5-2.6-1.9-2.6-4.5-8-16. If you have the fstop set at 4.5 look at the distances on the lens, the area inside the 4.5′s will be in focus. Hope this helps
