Building a cage for my 9′ burmese python.?
im planning on builing the cage out of .5″ high grade ply wood on three sided and on the top and bottom w/ sliding glass doors for the front. will i need to construct a frame for the cage or will the ply wood be rigid enough? what should i construct the frame out of ? the cage will be 8′ long 3′ wide and 2.5′ tall. any suggestions or ideas for my cage will be much appreciated.

Sounds like you are heading the right direction there with your cage plans. Just a few pointers…
If you use plywood, it wood be good to laminate the insides with formica. Plywood and water + humidity doesn’t go well. Your Burm will need the humidity especially during the ecdysis period (shedding). I’m just scared that the plywood will warp over time. If you laminate the inside with formica, then it would be much better. Also not to forget to use silicon to seal the sides (joints) so that moisture would not seep through them.
I would suggest you build a frame or alternatively, use L-angled aluminium to strengthen the sides and screw them tight. 0.5″ plywood seems a bit thin to me. Would it be possible to get something thicker. Your snake is going to get much bigger in time and you would want something stronger to hold it in. Since it is going to be 8 ft long, you will have to think about strengthening them lengthwise. Maybe think about the possibility of the plywood sagging in the middle. Therefore you would need support to prevent this in the middle.
Glass door fronts are good. Make sure that the aluminium section holding the glass and the tracks can be secured well as the Burm might push against it and escape. Use at least more than 6mm glass to make sure it can be strong enough to withstand impact by the Burm.
What about ventilation? You did not mention anything about ventilation. Please make sure that the ventilation is good enough to ensure the correct humidity level can be maintained inside the enclosure.
