External flash?¿ need help !?
Ok, you know the umbrellas and softboxes from photo studios? the light
source it’s from a speedlight, and it is always ON !, I want to know if I
buy a speedlight like the Nikon TB-4. what can I do to get the flash on ?. Do I need a radio slave or something like that?.
I mean, I want the flash to fuction as a lamp.
I don’t know if the question is well formulated but I hope you can understand and help me ! Thanks !
Some studio electronic flash units have what are called modeling lights to help the photographer pre-visualize the lighting before shooting their subject.
Most are too weak to be used as a light source (125 or 250 watt incandescent lamps)
What you need for your purposes is a number of 500 or better 750 watt incandescent lamps
NOTE: Electronic flash units are not less expensive that incandescent lamps, quite the opposite it true.
A two lamp, 750 watt Lowel Tota-light kit with umbrellas, stands and carrying bag costs less than $500.
Take a look at what a two light studio flash kit with power supply and softboxes or umbrellas cost and you will see the difference
