Page 11 indicates that you can use the DIGITAL zoom but says nothing about optical zoom. I have an earlier model and could not zoom while making videos.
The time between pictures will depend on a) the picture quality mode selected and b) the complexity of the image being recorded.
Typical non flash delay was reported as slightly over 2 seconds (without flash) and up to about 4 seconds with flash.
I could not find a store selling the model 1000 anymore (it is two years old) but the model 1010 which is almost identical is still selling new for about $175~200 on Amazon.
You could check Olympus America’s on line auction site for similar models, they often have excellent deals on refurbished units, scuffed packages and demo units.
