Is it worth keeping my VHS player going?
I’m trying to decide if my super old VHS player is worth kepping or if I should replace it with somthing newer.
It’s a 30 year old JVC BR-1500U and still has everything you’d expect it to have (remote, manual), it plays nice but I’ve had to repair it a few times in the last few years.
I can repair it myself but is it even worth it? I keep it because I have no intention of replacing my 100′s of old tapes.
I like it but I think it may be time to let it die.
It IS the 21st Century y’know !!!
The GOOD thing about a VHS vs a newer PVR (Personal Video Recorder) is when the tape is full, you put in another one … with a PVR, unless you get one that allows you to dump program files off onto a hard-drive (like the Topfield), when the disc is full … you can’t record anything new until you get rid of something old.
The good thing about a PVR is that you can replay a pre-recorded item while you are recording one or two new items …. and/or you can pause a live TV program and come back to it a few minutes later … then jump through the ads. Plus the video quality is VASTLY superior to VHS.
BUT … the old adage of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” surely applies here. If it works for you, stick with it.
