Vintage Slr
Which film camera would you recommend with these requirements ?
I might be taking a film photography studio class, i’m not sure, but I wanted to get a film camera anyways. The camera can’t be over a hundred dollars, I want the film to to wind itself, It needs to be a SLR, has the light meter stick thing, manual controls and something more vintage looking then a rebel film series.

Look into a Pentax Spotmatic or K1000. The Spotmatic is a tiny little bit up-line from the K1000, but they are essentially the same. You won’t find a winder for these camreas, though. I had an Asahi Spotmatic from Japan (before Honeywell was importing them) with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. Sweet, is all I can say. That was stolen and I got a Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic II with the f/1.8 lens. Not bad for a 40 year old camera.

If you go for Nikon, I say to avoid the original F model. It was horrible ergonomically, with the shutter relase button located near the rear of the body – very inconvenient. The Nikkormat was pretty cool, in my opinion, although it was the baby brother to the Nikon F.

It’s too bad that Canon changed their lens mount, or I’d tell you to get a Canon A-1 or AE-1, with the A-1 being the more expensive body. Maybe you can find a suitable one with a lens for not too much money.

I have an AE-1 that I would GIVE you, but it needs repair and I don’t know how much that will cost. I got it from my sister. When I c ock ed the shutter (film advance), it just got stuck and that’s all she wrote. Let me know if you are interested. There are a few lenses with it, too.
